LOUIS - 1

I don't think Ms. Skeeter's allowed to take me away from school without my parents' permission. Does Headmistress McGonagall know about this?

Apr. 6th, 2011

I am glad someone is enjoying herself, even if the rest of us are not.

Lysander, do you mind if I keep the book you let me borrow for a few more days? I would like to make some notes.

Has anyone made a list of the people in the village and the time periods they are from?

Mar. 21st, 2011

It has been very quiet lately. It makes me worry about what is going to happen next. Things are never quiet here for long.

In the interest of keeping peace...

[Private to Colin]

I would like to apologize.

We finished the new store yesterday. The spellwork went quite well; it was all very simple once the spells were cast. Thank you Colin for your wand. I should really see about making myself a staff. The trouble is finding the wood.

Feb. 16th, 2011

I think I have a schedule worked out now. Mornings are devoted to the younger students; Ariana and Colin work at independent study, though I occasionally have them assist in a group lesson with Helga, Helena, and Kingsley. Afternoons, the younger children work on independent activities and playtime, though generally their activities must relate to what we studied that morning.

Miss Skeeter, I would politely request that you either appoint a full-time teacher, or relieve me of my part-time job. Right now I am creating lesson plans during the part-time job, or instructing Lysander in how to do the job himself.

[Private to Colin]

Might I borrow your wand this Saturday?

I had just gotten a start on training Miss Warbeck when she was taken away. Now I shall probably have to start over, given the number of practical skills future wizards seem to possess. I find it bizarre that you all seem to specialize to the point of knowing little about basic skills. Or rather, what you call basic skills are very different from what people in my time consider basic.

[Private to Lily Luna]

Are you still considering educating Mr. Malfoy?

Is it colder in modern times, or is this no longer Britain? I do not recall winter being nearly so cold. Perhaps it is simply that the clothes are not so warm, though they are remarkably easier to clean than leathers and furs. I do not like to spend so much time outdoors due to the cold, yet I feel confined inside. It is a problem.

Is there a spot one might acquire a wand? Or possibly learn about making one? I might carve a serviceable stave, but I understand that wands are the standard here. They are certainly easier to keep about oneself, which is a marked advantage. I grow tired of simpler magics.

Jan. 6th, 2011

I see we have more new arrivals. As they have been recognized by people here, I will assume they are from what most of you call the modern time. While this is very interesting, I would like it if there was someone from my own time. It would be nice to have the same perspective.

I am making my first foray into fiction. I am not sure what this should be, though. Who has a favorite fictional book, and would you share what it is with me?

Dec. 29th, 2010

Ariana, I forgot to thank you for the gift. I was not aware there was a custom of gift-giving on the day of the Christmas festival. I do not recall one at the monastery. They considered it a day for prayer. Is this a modern observance?

Considering that the solstice was a week ago, I am not sure why your New Year begins in a few days. It seems to be an arbitrary day chosen; I have not found research for why the new year begins now. I do miss the lunar calendar; it makes more sense from an earth-bound perspective, even if the research does show that it is less accurate in the long run than a solar calendar.

I made myself a bookshelf. I should like recommendations on what to fill it with.

Dec. 21st, 2010

There seems to be an army of snow-creatures out front. Melting them has proved ineffective; they seem to replicate quite quickly. I have managed to lock them into place temporarily, but I can't freeze them entirely, and they have quite impressive aim. And range.

Astoria, you might not want to come home.

Dec. 15th, 2010

I think I accidentally bought this book. I do not recall looking at it in the bookstore. I probably did, but I know I did not mean to buy it. It has some very interesting drawings in it, and someone has charmed the drawings to move. I am curious how well this all works. I do not think this is all necessary. Or possible.

However, if I am a child according to the laws of this place, I do not think the shop owner should have sold it to me. This "Kama Sutra" is not something I should imagine they would want a child to read.

Dec. 9th, 2010

The paper took a long time to read. I had to use the dictionary for much, and I am still not sure I have read it all right. The tone seems to be implying things which are not stated, and I am not sure which subtext to take.

What is the point of a horoscope? If it is a fortune, it is very unspecific. It seems to be based on a birthdate. How does one know the birthdate? This is not a system I have used.

That shall have to be my next book. What is this system of time?

Nov. 28th, 2010

Do all live in such large houses? I do not know what to do with the space. A large family can fit.

I have a paper. It says I must go to school? What is school?

The English is better? I found a book of words in this house, it is very helpful.

What a strayng contraption this devise is. It is of paper, but of no paper I have seen before. How did the makers create it so smooth and cleen? It is like the bark of a birch in its whiteness, and bound together so neatly.

This entire village is the strangest I hath ever seen. The cottages are made of no materials I know of, and the garments the folk of it wear! There is a ladie in charge of the whole it would seem, and I have never heard of such a thing. Even among the magik folk the men take the headway. She speaks in strange tongues. Some of it seems to be of the Saxons, but I knew very little of it, even when compared to what I hath learned already. She spoke no Welsh nor did the men around her.

There is strayng magik afoot here and I shall not rest til I hath seen it plaid out.

Jan. 13th, 2010

You have nothing for weapons in this time! Hunting with magic is a chancy affair, and I prefer to use spears or arrows. It is not a proper spear, which should be well seasoned, but I have made myself a weapon. There are plenty of squirrels in these trees, and I and my room-mate shall not require very many. If any should like to barter a few vegetables or grains to cook with these squirrels, I shall be happy to trade.

[Translated to English]

"School" seems to be a place that alternates useful knowledge with great tedium. I much prefer an individualistic approach. Why should I spend time hearing about charms I am already adept at performing? Potions is quite fascinating, though; there are many more ingredients available in this time than in my own.

I hear there is a shoppe of scripts the next street over; that shall be my destination on the morrow. I should possibly attempt to wear some of these futuristic clothes, though they seem to be frightfully thin. The clothing I have is not suitable for winter, though, and they are supposed to be.

I now have a spell will enable me to communicate. Perhaps this shall make things easier for me now.

Now. Can someone explain what a "bank account" is?

Jan. 5th, 2010

[Written in Welsh]

I am tired of this place.
